Cartier Bickley's putback with just under 15 seconds left in the game put Hoban up five en route to a 56-51 win over Benedictine on Friday night.

The Knights secured their second win over  Benedictine this season, both contests were decided by single digits.

After a sluggish first quarter by Benedictine in which they scored just eight points, senior Marlon Moore sparked a run that  allowed the Bengals to stay within striking distance against the home team.

Moore, a West Lberty signee, finished with a game-high 23 points including a smooth up-and-under to give the Bengals a one-point edge, but Hoban's Garrett Houser answered Moore's bucket with a coast to coast drive that resulted in a pair of free throws.. The Knights led 29-28 at the break.

Houser stayed in attack mode to begin the second half.

The junior point guard followed up back to back three pointers with a hesitation layup to notch 8 straight points for the Knights. Houser wasn't alone as senior Brian Cuppett provided the team with a number of extra possessions with his work on the offensive glass, he finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

Moore traded baskets with Houser throughout the third but the team committed a handful of turnovers down the stretch to end the quarter, Benedictine trailed by seven after three quarters.

In a game that was filled with a plethora of foul calls, both teams found themselves well into the bonus throughout the duration of the game.

A block by Benedictine's Chris Jefferson led to a run out by sophomore Devon Fox. The Bengals picked up the intensity on the defensive end and their pressure on that end of the floor resulted with them trimming the Hoban lead to just one late in the fourth quarter.

Following a foul call that went against the Bengals,  a questionable foul call was called on the team's bench with under a minute to go.

Hoban was unable to connect on a number of free throws but turnovers once again plagued Benedictine.

Jefferson's pullup jumper brought the lead to just three but two more free throws by Houser put the game out of reach as Coach T.K. Griffith and company secured their 13th consecutive win this season.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday to play in a pair of makeup games on the road. Hoban travels to play a surging Padua group, while Benedictine has a chance to bounce back against St. Ignatius, the third ranked team in our latest Top 25 poll.
