West Hits His Stride

There has been a number of 2025 prospects from Ohio that have seen a major surge in their recruitment over the past few weeks as names like Nikola Bundalo (Western Reserve Academy) and Jayden Quaintance (Word of God) have garnered some serious attention on the national level.

Toledo's Antione West could be next. He quietly put together an impressive Spring with All Ohio Red and he carried over that momentum into "Midwest Live", a scholastic live period event that took place in Sandusky last weekend.

The 6'2 junior guard talked to NEO Spotlight about his recruitment, his newfound confidence,  and the upcoming July live periods.

Check out the full story as well as West's highlights from the Spring!

Recruitment

June 15th marked the first day that college coaches were able to get in direct contact with the Class of 2025, whether that was via text/phone call or social media. The top prospects around the country stayed glued to their cell phones while they waited for the clock to strike midnight.

"It wasn't necessarily overwhelming because I really appreciated it...it was a good feeling", West said in regards to the number of schools that reached out on that first day.

Since the contact period began, he has heard from the following programs: Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Xavier, Ohio, Dayton, Indiana State, and Miami (FL).

SPRING HIGHLIGHTS

Spring 2023

West finished the Spring EYBL sessions second in both points and assists on a talented All Ohio 16U team, showcasing his versatility as a dual-threat guard who was capable of playing with or without the basketball.

"I feel like I took a big step, especially in my confidence. I've always put in the work but it was just more of a mental thing for me", West explained said about his increase in production.

April was perhaps the most assertive West has played on the offensive end as he used his smooth pace and a great change of speed to attack angles or get to his pull-up jumper. He shot an impressive 41.5% from behind the arc and made shots in a variety of ways.

Player Bio

Midwest Live

Last Saturday, NEO Spotlight was able to take in Toledo Whitmer's matchup against the always talented River Rouge out of the Greater Detroit area.

Whitmer walked away with a 58-47 victory behind a combined 34 points from West and senior Jalen Brown, a transfer from Emmanuel Christian.

West knocked down a total of five three-pointers and was really looking to create his own offense. He was under control playing off the dribble drive and showed a feathery soft touch on his runners/floaters.

His play over the weekend was enough for Xavier and Dayton to extend offers his way.

July Live Periods

All Ohio Red's 16U just barely missed the mark for the illustrious Nike Peach Jam but the team will still be making a trip down South to Augusta.

They'll be competing in "Peach State", a live period event that will feature both Nike sponsored teams and quality independent programs alike.

What's West looking forward to the most?

"Just playing more basketball. I love playing and getting better against the best competition."
