OBc's 16U finished 3rd out of 32 teams during the Gauntlet's first stop in Dallas.

A 77-61 over Team Brandon Knight was enough to give the OBC 16U team a third place finish in stop number one of the Adidas Gauntlet, the team finished the weekend with a 4-1 record.

Standout Performers

Jamier Fletcher (First Love Christian, PA) 6'7 PF - Described by OBC director Mike Duncan as the group's "muscle man" on the inside, I walked away impressed with Fletcher in my first time seeing him. The wide body big man spent his sophomore season at Steel Valley but has since transferred to First Love Christian, a rising prep school in Washington, PA. Fletcher was the team's most consistent threat in the paint, using his size and the rim to protect the ball and finish with both hands. With a quality motor and a great set of hands, Fletcher has garnered interest from several Mid-Major programs.

Alonzo Gaffney (VASJ) 6'8 PF/WF - Regarded as one of the top three prospects in his class, Gaffney continues to add to his game and show glimpses of his ridiculously high upside. His size and elite length served the 6'8 forward well in Dallas and allowed him to change and alter shots at the rim. Adding strength has been one of the key focal points but Gaffney is beginning to put all of the pieces together in terms of his effort and activity on both ends. Offensively, the state champion is a mismatch problem waiting to happen with the ability to put the ball on the deck or shoot over the top with a smooth turnaround jumper.

Taevon Pierre-Louis (Lorain) 6'5 WF - It appears as if Pierre-Louis has found a home with OBC after coming on late in his sophomore season. One half of a one-two sophomore punch for Lorain, the 6'5 forward didn't show any signs of slowing down during his first business trip with OBC. Pierre-Louis is a strong, aggressive forward who is a problem for opposing defenders when he has a full head of steam. His natural feel for distributing the basketball was on full display, oftentimes finding small creases in the defense, but he spent most of the weekend being a terror on the offensive glass.

17U

Robby Carmody leads all Ohio based circuit teams in scoring after notching 20+ in all but one of the contests.

Carmody Shows Out

Coming off of an Adidas Summer Championship at the 16U level, OBC has began circuit play with their work cut out for them. The talented squad led by Dwayne Cohill and Robby Carmody squared off against three of the top 25 grassroot programs in the country during their stop in Dallas, losing each contest.

A bright spot from the weekend was Robby Carmody out of Mars, PA. His average of 21.2ppg was good enough to lead all Ohio-based shoe teams in scoring at the 17U level. The 6'4 wing has offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan, Notre Dame, Xavier, and his hometown Pittsburgh Panthers.

With virtually each of these programs represented over the course of the weekend, Carmody rose to the occasion with his aggression on the offensive end of the floor.  Carmody is a true throwback player and his game has the right about toughness and grit that it takes to be a rotation guy moving forward.

His motor allowed him to create some extra shot opportunities but his bread and butter came from behind the arc, putting in 10 threes in the four games. Carmody did an excellent job of finding his spots on the floor and making the most of his touches as he shot an efficient 52.5%.

Top Play

Christian Guess (Shaker Heights) had two of  the weekend's best dunks. At 6'5, Guess is a dynamic open floor athlete who is entering his first full summer playing on the circuit. Watch the video below!

Other Takeaways

Rotroff Adds Two Offers - Just one month after leading his high school to the Division 2 state championship game, 6'9 Austin Rotroff is back on the floor in attempt to carry over some momentum after a breakout junior season. Rotroff was a relatively unknown prospect at this point a year ago but that is no longer the case. A solid showing this past weekend in Dallas resulted in Ball State and Bowling Green extending scholarships.

The rising senior has intriguing size to go along with a frame that will fill out at the next level. Rotroff flourished in catch and finish opportunities and at times displayed a go-to right hook out of the low post. As he adjusts to the speed and influx of talent on the circuit, Rotroff is a player whose stock will continue to rise during the second live period.

Check out a few of his clips below!

Cohill Closes Out Strong - The first live period didn't start off the way Dwayne Cohill would have liked, but the nation's 67th ranked prospect (via Rivals) bounced back with a line of 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists against a highly touted  Team Loaded (VA) squad). With hundreds of head coaches and assistants in attendance, Cohill picked  up his second ACC offer from Clemson.

Bonner Accepts the Challenge - It can become physically taxing knowing in every game that you will likely be matched up with the opposing team's top player but Dale Bonner is used to the grind. The 6'1, 170lb guard isn't going to intimidate many with his size, but his effort defensively makes up for what he may lack in stature.

Bonner is as sound of a defensive guard that you will find in Ohio's 2018 class, using his long arms and wiry athleticism to frustrate some of the top talent that Adidas has to offer. In the weekend's first matchup with Marcus Smart YGC36, Bonner matched up with the Gauntlet's top scorer from a year ago in Grant Sherfield. Bonner limited the 6'3 sophomore to just one field goal in the second half.
