Don't look now but the freshmen duo of Luke Frazier and Luka Eller have combined to lead Lake Catholic to a number one seed in the Division 2 Ashtabula District.

The two have been playing together on the AAU circuit for nearly three years and that time has certainly played a role in how their games have translated to the high school level.

"We know each other better than most people do and just know what we like to do," the Eller said.

A skilled big, who has shown some flashes of being able to step away from the basket, Eller already stands at 6'5 but said that the biggest adjustment he had early on in his transition to varsity basketball was the "strength".

The freshmen post has managed his way to a number of solid outings despite not being the most physical forward on the floor. Eller is oftentimes the recipient of some post entries and early scoring opportunities from Frazier, his point guard.

Junior Brandon Horton, a starter last for Lake Catholic last season, suffered a torn ACL in the preseason that has kept him sidelined for the duration of the year, but the injury has given Frazier more room for error as the team's lead guard.

While Horton has been unable to lead by example, he has been in Frazier's ear throughout the season.

"He's been helping me with all the things I've done wrong and has been correcting me," Frazier said in response to how Horton has helped string him along the way.

The advice has resulted into production on the floor for Frazier. He scored a game-high 21 points in a 55-54 loss to Padua back on 2/24.

Frazier opened up the game with four triples in the first half. A savvy, lefty guard, Frazier handles the ball well and plays with a sense of confidence that is rarely seen in freshmen who are thrown into the fire early on.

Despite finishing just 10-12 in the regular season, the Cougars were picked by coaches within the district as the number one seed due to their non-conference wins and strength of schedule.

Eight of the team's 12 losses came by the hands of rivals within the North Coast League (Blue Division).

Check out both Eller and Frazier on 3/3 as they face the winner of #8 Shaw and #12 Conneaut.
