Thomas talks making the move to Cleveland Central Catholic, his senior season, and Maryland Eastern Shore

Miryne Thomas had a solid outing this weekend in Cleveland Central Catholic's Top 25 matchup against Holy Name, both teams are competitors in Division 2.

The senior forward notched 22 points and 7 rebounds and his performance allowed the Ironmen to make a statement to the state just prior to the OHSAA's version of Selection Sunday.

Thomas began his high school career at St. Martin De Porres, a small Division 4 school just 15 minutes North of CCC. Going from a relative unknown prospect in the area, it was the summer heading into his junior season when things began to click for Thomas.

"I want to say the atmosphere but I would have to say the workouts," Thomas said when asked what was the hardest part about the transition to CCC.

"Our coaches get us prepared before we're even in school. Practice every day is something new and something harder."

The extra push from Head Coach Jordan Duke and staff prepared Thomas for his time spent with the former King James Shooting Stars on the Nike EYBL Circuit which jumpstarted his recruitment.

Youngstown State and Cleveland State were the first to offer Thomas back in June but it was Maryland Eastern Shore where Thomas felt the most at home.

"When I took my visit, I just fell in love with the campus and I fell in love with what they want to turn me into."

UMES, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, was the third and final Division 1 school to reach out to Thomas and provided him with the most opportunity to make an impact as a freshman.

His senior season with CCC didn't exactly begin as planned for Thomas and the rest of his team as an altercation with St. Vincent-St. Mary resulted in a three-game suspension for the entire Ironmen roster.

"People thought that we were a violent team and that we were a bunch of hoodrats going to a Catholic school and playing basketball. They never understood who we really were."

Thomas currently holds a cumulative GPA well over a 3.0, all while blossoming into being a team captain and the most productive player on the floor most nights.

On Saturday, Thomas' ability to stretch the floor proved to be a major mismatch in favor of CCC. He knocked in four triples and his activity around the rim led to transition opportunities for both himself and teammates.

CCC has a tough stretch ahead to close out the regular season before heading into their first taste of the postseason on March 3rd. How does Miryne feel about the postseason?

"I think we're ready right now."
