Ohio & Michigan Set to Clash!
The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) have teamed up to host "Midwest Live", a high school shootout that features 100 teams from across both states.
Each squad will play a total of four games over the course of a two-day period with teams competing on Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday.
"Midwest Live" has replaced the OHSBCA's Top 100 Showcase as the state's marquee event during the June live periods.

Centerville vs. Brother Rice, Court 1 @ 5PM
A matchup between two future Big 10 guards as Gabe Cupps (Indiana) and Jonathan Blackwell (Wisconsin) square off in what should be one of the more competitive games of the weekend.
There won't be a shortage of talent in this one as Brother Rice also features 2023 F Xavier Thomas and 2023 F Curtis Williams. Williams, who holds a plethora of Mid Major and High Major offers, is coming off of an impressive Spring on the Nike EYBL circuit with The Family (MI).
Centerville junior Jonathan Powell had a breakout Spring in his own right and alongside 2023 Collin O'Connor, the two transfers jump the Elks right back into the conversation as one of Ohio's best in Division 1.
Saturday
Pickerington Central vs. OLSM, Court 5 @ 9AM
Expect a packed baseline for this one as 2023 Devin Royal and the Pickerington Central Tigers square off against Orchard Lake St. Mary's and Trey McKenney, who was ranked the 19th best sophomore in the country according to ESPN.
Royal & McKenney share offers from programs such as Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois, Alabama, and Missouri.
Other prospects to watch include 2023 F Gavin Headings (Pickerington Central) and 2025 G Sharod Barnes (Orchard Lakes St. Mary's). Headings had a breakout showing at Ohio State's team camp earlier this month.
Sunday
Africentric vs. Warren MI Collegiate, Court 1 @ 11AM
Africentric had a strong showing this past weekend in Chicago as they finished 4-0 at the Midwest Crossroads Showcase. Earning Game MVP honors were junior Cortez Freeman and seniors Dailyn Swain and Preston Steele. Swain is having himself a monster June so far and with the addition of Freeman, a transfer from Canal Winchester, the Nubians are an early favorite in Ohio's Division 3.
Warren Michigan Collegiate features 2024 Dylan Grant, an intriguing 6'8 forward who holds offers from VCU, Toledo, and Eastern Michigan. Keep your eyes on senior Braelon Green who played with Dream City Christian (AZ) last season as a junior but suited up with the team over the weekend. Green, a Michigan native, has a Top 5 of Arizona State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Texas, and Kansas.

Welcome to the Buckeye State
A few coaching changes have not only brought Ohio some new faces in the coaching ranks, but these hires have shifted the dynamic of the high school basketball scene as well.
Junior Reece Robinson played his Spring ball with KC Run GMC on the Under Armour circuit but he'll be suiting up this summer and the 222-23 season with Cleveland St. Ignatius. Reece is the son of Cleveland State head coach, Daniyal Robinson, who spent the last seven seasons as an assistant at Iowa State.
George Washington Jr., the newest member of the UD women's staff, brings with him his three sons: George III (Ohio State commit), Jackson, and Jaden. The talented trio will be attending Chaminade-Julienne in Dayton.
High Expectations on Cedar Road
The Cleveland Heights Tigers knocked off number 2 seed Brecksville en route to a district title and an appearance in the regional tournament for the first time since 2003.
Coach J.R. Bremer and company return a talented core that got their first real varsity experience in 2021-22. Seniors Shemarion Hardy, Rondelle Pollard, Rayvelle Duncan, and Jaedon Lawson will look to lead a pair of talented underclassmen in 2024 Hosea Steele and 2025 Braylyn Irby, a transfer from Garfield Heights Trinity.
Heights will have their hands full at "Midwest Live" as they square off with four Michigan teams: Hamtramck, Detroit Catholic Central, Muskegon, and Ferndale.
CVCA & Peterson Look to Run it Back
After ongoing rumors that he would be going the prep school route, sophomore Darryn Peterson appears to be staying on board at CVCA with Coach Matt Futch.
Peterson, a consensus top 5 player nationally, is Ohio's top prospect regardless of class. He is coming off of a big-time Spring with the NJ Scholars on the Nike EYBL circuit and will be looking to carry over that momentum into this coming weekend.
Expect some new faces on the Royals as they will most certainly be a team to watch in Division 2 during the high school season.
Family Ties at Cincinnati Moeller
The 2021-22 season marked the first time in 20 plus years that the Southwest Division 1 District Finals did not feature a team from the GCL.
Cincinnati Moeller has been arguably the most dominant team in Division 1 over the last 5-7 seasons and they're coming off an 18-6 record and a loss to Fairfield in the district semifinals a year ago.
But the future is bright for Coach Carl Kremer thanks to the likes of 2024 A.J. McBride and 2025 Kingston Land, both players having ties to the program. A.J. is the cousin of New York Knicks guard Deuce McBride and Kingston's older brother, Max, was a 2020 grad and is currently playing Division 1 basketball at St. Francis (PA).
Akron STVM Rejoins Division 1
For the first time in what feels like ages, St. Vincent-St. Mary will enter the new season without Sencire Illinois (Illinois freshman) and Malaki Branham (future NBA draftee).
Seniors Lance "LA" Hayes, Darius Stratford, and Kevin Hamilton look to lead the Irish who are back in Division 1 for the first time since 2019. Hayes, who holds a handful of Mid Major offers, showed some flashes last season as he took on more of the scoring load while Harris and Ramar Pryor were out due to injury.
On February 21st, Hayes scored a career-high 33 points against Oak Hill Academy.
