In What Way Could The OHSAA Improve?

T.J. Peatross, NEO Spotlight -  I'd love to see the OHSAA implement a universal site for boys basketball that provides up-to-date scores, and schedules in one place. This would take a lot of collaboration between athletic directors and high school coaches but the MHSAA in Michigan offers this service directly on their websiteand I believe this would be feasible for Ohio to do as well. With the constant cycle of cancellations and postponements as a result of COVID-19, this would be a valuable tool for all parties.

Corey Albertson, Triple Double Prospects - I'm not nearly as concerned with the shot clock stuff as everyone else; so, if I had to change OHSAA policies it would be more out of season related. The June schedule could be improved lately, they could be more friendly to media and scouting services (with some regulations of course), and generally embrace a basketball culture that is changing in the modern era. I know some parts of Ohio favor the old ways, but this can be detrimental to the top prospects, and can lead to them leaving Ohio for perceived greener pastures.

Matt Goul, cleveland.com - Shot clock is the popular topic here, and I think it would be good for Division I only. Handle it like the DH in baseball during the regular season when a smaller school plays a bigger one. Use it at home. Personally, I’d like to see transfer rules get a little tighter. There’s too many exceptions.

Michael Roth, Prep Hoops Ohio - I think raising the maximum number of games a team can play would be awesome for some teams. Centerville is only playing two games against OHSAA opponents that are not in the GWOC. I'd also like to see some of our top teams challenge themselves against out of state teams; it would've been really cool to see teams like Gahanna against some more high level competition from outside Ohio. Also, games like Gahanna versus Pickerington Central were awesome, but would it hurt to play that game twice? I think if you allow teams to schedule anywhere between 20-28 games, you'd see more intrigue and it wouldn't force anybody to play more than the 22 currently set.

Jake Meisler, Spy Report - The showcased topic will be a shot clock - it’s inevitable and it’s coming.  I'm pretty indifferent there as teams, coaches and players will adjust.  There is still the messy plate of public and parochial participation in the OHSAA and their tendencies — but I’ll leave it at that.

Zach Fleer, 270 Hoops - Use a system like Joe Eitel for playoff basketball seeding. I am attempting to do something similar and am working with Breyton Martin of Martin RPI to accurately rank Central Ohio basketball at all four divisions. I think having a statewide metric system that accurately ranks teams based on who they've beaten and how good those teams are would give every team a fair shot for a state championship.

Jake Spegal, 270 Hoops - I think that the biggest way that the OHSAA could improve boys basketball is by adding a shot clock. I know it would be a hassle with finding people to run it at every school and also installing the shot clocks, but I think it is something that we desperately need. Too often do teams lead by single digits late in the game and then take minute-long possessions. I'd really like to see how the game would change at the high school level with the implementation of a shot clock.
