Who Wins Mr. Basketball?

T.J. Peatross, NEO Spotlight - There isn't a clear favorite at the moment but I believe that Gahanna's Sean Jones probably has the best shot. The Marquette signee is averaging a team-high 18.9PPG and he Lions are off to a 9-2 start. This award will come down to the postseason and players like Sencire Harris (Akron STVM), Elmore James (Brush), Devin Royal (Pickerington Central), and Paul McMillan (Cincinnati Woodward) can improve their case by making a late run for Dayton.

Corey Albertson, Triple Double Prospects - Mr. Basketball has got to be a two horse race at this point between Sean Jones and Paul McMillan IV. I think I'd give the edge to Sean Jones if I had to vote, but I can see it being pretty close when you look at what each one has produced from a statistical standpoint. There certainly are others who are capable of winning, but I think one of these two ultimately bring home the award.

Matt Goul, cleveland.com - Malaki Branham won the award last season for St. Vincent-St. Mary, giving the Fighting Irish their first Mr. Basketball winner since LeBron James. Could Sencire Harris give STVM back-to-back winners? He and Brush’s Elmore James IV are the frontrunners from Northeast Ohio entering the regular season’s midway point. Centerville’s Gabe Cupps, Gahanna Lincoln’s Sean Jones and Pickerington Central’s Devin Royal come to mind. I’ll predict Jones to win it.

Michael Roth, Prep Hoops Ohio - I think I'm going to lean towards Sean Jones right now, but there are many candidates I think have a worthwhile case. Besides Jones, I think Sencire Harris, Elmore James, Devin Royal and a few others might get into the mix as well. I think nothing will be set in stone heading into the playoffs.

Jake Meisler, Spy Report - To me, the most well-rounded and proven basketball player in the state is Sean Jones of Gahanna. Big stage performances, both in high school and on the grassroots scene, and he changes the game on both ends of floor virtually every time out.

Zach Fleer, 270 Hoops - My vote for Mr. Basketball would go to Devin Royal of Pickerington Central. He has dominated Central Ohio basketball and rose to the occasion in the biggest games of the season, including last Saturday's win at Gahanna Lincoln. If I had a vote for someone outside of Columbus, I would vote for Sencire Harris of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.

Jake Spegal, 270 Hoops - I think this year is a lot different than usual because there is not a clear front runner for Mr. Basketball. Gahanna's Sean Jones is certainly amongst the top of the pack, but I think he will have to help the Lions finally get over the hump and win a regional title to take home the honor. If Pickerington Central makes it out of the Columbus region, junior Devin Royal will certainly have a chance as well. Northeast Ohio will have a few guys in the running as always and I have been very impressed with Illinois signee Sencire Harris of St. Vincent St. Mary and think he is also making a great case to become the second Irish player in a row to win the award.
